This cache is dedicated to a local doctor that served the Jackson community for many years.
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: James E. Albrecht was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1916 and studied medicine at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. In 1948 he began his medical practice in Jackson, Wisconsin. During the 1970s Dr. Albrecht began to undertake activities to bring about change in his community. One of the first tasks he carried out was a petition of President Richard Nixon to have a National Day of Prayer, which took place on October 21, 1970. He also worked to form an Alcoholics Anonymous Chapter in his community and to curb teenage drinking. In 1977 Dr. Albrecht refused to sign the Medicare/Medicaid agreement and began a fight to reform the Medicare system that continued into the 1990s. In 1992, while semi-retired from his medical practice, he wrote his autobiography entitled The Life and Times of a Country Doctor: The Autobiography of James E. Albrecht, MD. He opened a free Clinic, the Albrecht Free Clinic to serve those in the community who could not afford health care. Doc Albrecht is buried in this cemetary and made a huge contribution to his community, say hi as you drive out as you can see the doc's and his wife's stone from the cemetery road.
