To find the cache, head to Krumbo reservoir by driving south on
highway 205 from Burns and turning east at the Krumbo Res. road
sign. Follow the gravel road all the way to the paved parking area
at the end. Park anywhere you like and head to N42° 57.051' and
W118° 48.406' where a little foot trail starts next to the lake.
Follow the trail as it meanders through the sagebrush and around
the lake. At about N42° 57.006' and W118° 48.293' you'll need to
head off the trail and up the hill to where it flattens out. There
is no trail to follow up here, so you'll have to let your trusty
GPS guide the way. If it's working correctly, you shouldn't have
any trouble getting to the area of the cache. No major bushwhacking
or rock climbing is needed. Maybe just navigate around a few
boulders. After finding the cache, take the time to enjoy the view
of this beautiful place (like this one).
The cache is a green/clear plastic pencil case. Please replace
the cache as it was hidden. Original contents were....
-Log book & pens
-Top Flite golf ball
-Golf tee
-Kaanapali golf divot repair tool
-Toy train
-Haggen super saver card
-Uncle pen
-Bottle Buddy
-Coors football bottle opener keychain
-2 Matchbox cars
-International UFO Museum pencil
*FYI, there is a gate about 1 mile down the Krumbo road that is
closed at night sometimes, as there is no camping or overnight
parking allowed on the refuge. Also, Krumbo reservoir is open for
fishing from late April to October 31st. The gate is sometimes
known to be closed during the day in the fishing offseason also,
although not very often. If you'd like to check ahead of time, I'd
try calling the local ODFW office or the local BLM office, both in
Hines, OR. They would probably know. You won't have any problems
getting in late April through October though.
