Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO THESANDHILLDON FOR A FTF!
This is a 50cal. cammoed ammo can, about a quarter mile down an easy walking path.

A Great Blue Heron rookery is what you will see on this caching journey in Davidson Nature Preserve.
The Davidson Nature Preserve is in Vassalboro. The 97 acre Davidson Nature Preserve was donated to the Kennebec Land Trust in 2005. Absolutely NO dogs allowed. Not even on leash. There are blueberry fields open for picking, mixed woodlands, and a heron rookery situated above a beaver bog. In addition to the many songbirds nesting here, the preserve is an important stop-over point for spring and fall long distance migrants, especially warblers
You had better bring your binoculars and your camera for this one!
There is a parking area located at the trail head on the Taber Hill Road at KLT sign. The coordinates for the cache Birches, Birds and Blueberries (GC1BHFW) will bring you to the parking area as well. No blazed trails, but short, easy walks on paths from Taber Hill Road to blueberry fields and the north end of the bog. Initially your journey will take you across a field of Birch trees, then as you travel down the trail, into the woods, you will pass a metal gate and see private property signs to your right. Please respect the the owner and obey the signs by staying to the left. The signs will disappear after passing a stone wall. The trail will then open into a wonderful little secluded Blueberry field. The trail will serpentine through the field then back into the woods for a short trek to the Bog and Heron Rookery. The nests can be seen on the tree tops off to the left side of the bog. It goes without saying, that they should not be approached or bothered in anyway.
The cache is twenty-five or thirty feet off the left side of the trail where trees, rocks, and stumps come together, just before you reach the small blueberry field. The cache contains mostly stuff for children, but there are a few cool things for the adults as well. This is a new cache and not the old $#!+pokes cache and can be logged as a new find. $#!+pokes was in a sensitive area and was archived. The FTF can take an item without trading!
