Well, since the ORIGINAL Welcome to Whaetfield had to be archived, I decided upon a VERY traditional Welcome to......cache. I hope Huckle Buckle remembers to put this on the Welcome List!
Wheatfield was the last town organized in Niagara county, on May 12, 1836. The Niagara River forms its southwestern boundary and Tonawanda Creek its southern. Cayuga Creek (just how many Cayuga Creeks are there anyway??)flows across the northwestern part of the town and empties into the Niagara River, and Sawyer’s Creek flows southeasterly across the southeastern part and empties into Tonawanda Creek.
The first town meeting was held on June 6, 1836, in the schoolhouse of District No. 7, on the north line of the Town. Soil of the Town is generally clay loam and somewhat difficult to cultivate, but heavy crops of wheat can be grown on the land, thus giving the Town its name - WHEATFIELD !!
