This is an easy stroll. The 3 access points are again available as the footbridge has been replaced: Balmore Nurseries, the Torrance bridge and Hungryside bridge over the Canal, and Cadder .
The Kelvin is only 34km long yet has a remarkably small drop of 47m. This and the flat plain that the river flows through leads it to take such a meandering course. Given the flat plain the river has been prone to frequent flooding, which has long had economic consequences. The initial efforts to prevent flooding by improved drainage were initiated by Sir Archibald Edminstone of Duntreath in the late 18th century [A. Matheson (2002) Glasgow’s Other River: Exploring the Kelvin ISBN 0-9536576-2-0]. Since then major efforts have been made to contain the Kelvin with large embankments being built. In recent years further prevention schemes have led to strengthening of the embankments. However, after heavy rain the small streams pour murky water into the Kelvin. In addition, large scale upgrading of the Kelvin Valley sewage system can be seen e.g. at Fluchter. The path from the canal crosses the Antonine Wall, and you will pass the site of a Motte.
