After the clean up, we will head to Azalea
Park in Summerville for the
Flowertown Flash Mob at 1:00pm. A
Poker Run will commence following the flash mob and continue until
we meet at Kelly's Barbeque in Summerville for the
SCGA May Meeting at 6:30
PM.
We will meet at the coordinates above to sign in
and distribute supplies. We will be in charge of cleaning the
Edisto River from Mars OldField Landing (N 33° 03.261 W 080°
26.973) downriver to Givhans Ferry State Park. Please bring a
geovessel (boat, canoe, etc) if you have one available. A group
will use the geovessels to clean the river, while those who wish to
stay on land will clean the banks at the landing and the State
Park.
FRED is a small group of citizens focusing on
preserving the quality of water and habitat of the Edisto River
watershed. FRED cannot clean the entire watershed, so they ask
volunteer groups to hold cleanup events throughout the year. In
previous years, geocachers have helped clean stretches of the
Edisto River and the boat landings that provide access to the
Edisto River. The Edisto River is part of the ACE BASIN,which is comprised of the Ashepoo,
Combahee, and Edisto Rivers, where numerous caches are
hidden.
