Inspired by "It's all about the Trade" by Mach2003 (British Columbia) (a cache that has sadly since been archived), this cache features as its final stage a hidden warehouse with facilities for multiple trading items. It involves a short walk in the park and a mild sense of the ridiculous to log a find. Be prepared to join in the simple game by recording trading activities for the amusement of other cachers.
You will find a notice containing the warehouse address at the given co-ordinates. Copy the details (the original download facility has been removed, so you may have to adjust the address format to meet the requirements of your navigational aids). Should you disturb this notice, please ensure that it is replaced securely.
Since the cache was originally established there have been some access controls introduced along the preferred entry route, but on each visit we have been admitted to the area without challenge. There are several pedestrian access routes from across the waterway, but as they may involve some splashing and scrabbling they are not recommended within the published terrain rating. A suitable parking area with a good view of the terrain is noted in the additional waypoint. Playground equipment is situated very close to your expected route around this part of the park.
This is a BYOT (“T” = transport) cache, because it offers no equipment or labour for moving goods that are outside the warehouse precinct. There are adequate internal handling facilities (please note however that although the fork-lift truck and overhead gantry are there for your use, in terms of municipal by-laws they may be operated only by persons holding the appropriate operator’s certification). There are storage facilities for most non-perishables, and there is a generator for use when the region is blacked out. There is normally sufficient fuel to power the various house facilities, including the generator.
It is true that in the past there have been some minor maintenance issues, but the original long-term property lease that was negotiated on favourable terms is continuing.
Please note the following guidelines:
1. The warehouse access details that you will find at the published co-ordinates should be replaced securely in their hiding place after being copied or downloaded.
2. All cachers opening the warehouse should come prepared to trade.
3. Trade up or trade even, but please do trade.
4. The handling equipment, shelving, and logging devices are not for trade and should be returned to their proper storage places (as marked on the warehouse floor) before closing up.
5. The register of traded goods should be updated after each trade by removal of the relevant control slip, and a new control slip should be made out for each item traded in.
6. When leaving please ensure that the entrance has been properly closed to keep out the weather, and that the shutters have been put in place to avoid casual discovery. In this age of load-shedding it goes without saying that all lights should be extinguished, and the machinery should not be left running.
7. Log your 'experiences' and 'comments' for the benefit of readers of this page.
The original contents of the cache were:
• Decommissioned, unlaunched GPS satellite, needing calibration.
