Geocache Description:

Parking is available at the monuement lot or further down Edison Rd towards Ogdensburg. Woods roads and trails to gz. Moderate terrain depending upon approach. Within Sparta Mt WMA (See below).

This small single engine Sessna style airplane hit the trees and ground with a good force judging from the mangled wreckage. I was unable to locate information about the crash but I am assuming the pilot didn't survive. What remains of the wreckage sits at the bottom of a ledge with part of a wing and others scattered about.
From the monument parking lot go left around the swamp area using the old railbed and woods roads working your way to the power lines beyond the swamp. If parking further down Edison Rd and using woods roads (keep right at the split) and work your way to the power lines. Once at the power lines the next trail you need to use is marked by a small pile of rocks and starts off the trail that runs between two power line towers. (Rock pile coords N41 04.718 X W074 33.970)
Follow this trail generally towards the plane cache coords until you see a gravel road up ahead. Around this point a trail leads off to the left marked with various colored paint markings(two white, red and black) on trees going up into the ledges and over to the area looking over gz. The ammo can is tucked not far from the tail section. Please rehide to cover well as area may see hunters and quad riders. Bushwhacking from the powerlines may be faster but I think there is a wet area to navigate around. "PLEASE" don't post alot of pictures of the wreck, maybe a close up or two as I dont want to give away the mystique of the site or let others know exactly what to expect. Thanks. Cool site to wonder about. Treequest

3/7/10 Thanks to Klizich and his interest in this crach he discovered that the plane went down in May-August 1980 and the lone pilot died.
