Cache is located on the Withlacoochee recreational trail, north of the Ridge Manor trailhead.
Railroad tycoon Henry Flagler could never have foreseen the use his Florida west coast route would be put to, when he built it in the late 1800’s. In 1989, 46 miles of the abandoned rail corridor between Crystal Springs and Dade City was sold and converted into the first and longest continuous, paved trail in the Florida Rails to Trails system.
Park your car at the Ridge Manor trailhead off State Road 50 and proceed north for about ¾ of a mile. Be on the lookout for gopher tortoises, deer, hawks, turkeys and the occasional snake. Imagine the faces pressed to the train windows over one hundred years ago as passengers journeyed through the Florida wilderness right where you are standing.
You are searching for a camouflaged ammo box about 50 feet east of the trail. No need to bushwhack here.
The box is stocked with plenty of trinkets and has a Golden $1 Native American coin inside for the first finder.
Good luck!
