Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is one of four caches in a four mile circular route designed to be walked in an anti-clock wise direction starting from the car park as way marked. It is hoped this will appeal to families, as there is plenty to see on the way. Please note the paths can be muddy so boots or wellies are advisable.
This cache is set in mixed woodlands.
From Yew Are Right cache head downhill to the houses and Witherslack Church. You emerge on to the road which you have to cross.
Witherslack Church was built in 1664 by order of two brothers who name was Barwick, John was a Dean (of the Church) hence the name of the village school – Dean Barwick. It is worth a visit to the Church where you can see up the valley to Cartmel Fell.
Take the signed footpath by the Old Vicarage, opposite from where you emerged from the woods. This path winds it way through orchards and passed a tennis court and then into a small wood and onto a minor road. Take the footpath signed Slate Hill and Cat Crag. Behind the houses take the right hand fork and follow the track which will take you over a stile. Here take the path to the right across the fields following the walls until you reach a sign where the path divides. Now take the left fork which takes you down to an old quarry. Here you will see what happens if man just throws his waste away. Soon you will come to a junction of a track where there is a bench for those who need a rest (we sat here for a while). A short distance down the track there is footpath sign on the left into the woods. The cache is not far up this path. As the cache is in woods and GPS signals can be tricky use the name of the cache and the clue to help you.
