Geocache Description:

Welcome back to the Monte Sano Preserve - which is more than just Land Trust Property, but also a cache downstream from the Butter here. This cache was placed as part of the Cache Renewal (GC1BRC2) program.

I sat down last night and reviewed the archived caches in my found pocket query attempting to find the right one to resurrect. At first I considered grabbing the closest PNG and getting it over, but then I decided it would be better to show favoritism to one I remember well and enjoyed. So, I selected the old Monte Sano Butter (GCMREP) cache. The replacement is about 50' from the old hide location, about 50' from the stream, and about 150' from the Old Railroad Bed Trail. The new cache is a decon container. The text of the old listing follows, slightly edited to make it fit the context of this modified hide.

This cache was inspired by my trek to “Monte Sano Preserve” (GC827), the 2nd oldest cache in North Alabama. Placed at the far reaches of the preserve with respect to the parking lot (N 34 deg 44.628 min., W 86 deg. 32.667 min. off of Bankhead Parkway.) I decided a couple of more caches in the area might draw more traffic to this part of the preserve AND what good are “Preserves” without some toast and butter to go with them?

I recommend starting early, hiking down the Alm’s House Trail to “Monte Sano Toast”, then up the creek bed to “Monte Sano Preserve” then on to this cache. This will put you in the eye of the button hook of the Railroad Bed Trail and on the path to other caches in the area.

This cache is a “gimmie” as a reward for your hard work on “Monte Sano Toast”. (The renewel cache is a bit tougher.) It is a plastic spice jar(now a decon container), large enough for a log and a few small trade items. It is hidden under a ledge above the creek bed beyond the sight of muggles.
