Geocache Description:

A very short multi stage with two waypoints only about 100 feet apart. I have listed both waypoints, but stop at the first listed for a bit of history.

The listed coordinates will take you to what is left of a hanging tree and monument with California Historic Landmark #460 plaque. This location is one part of the Mark Twain Bret Harte Trail. From link at the top listed "User's Web Page", you can learn more about this location and other points on he trail.

NO. 460 SECOND GARROTE - A sizable settlement was established at this rich placer location in 1849 by miners spreading east from Big Oak Flat and Groveland. The famous hangman's tree, part of which still stands (1950), is reported to have been instrumental in the death of a number of lawbreakers during the heyday of this locality.

After going to the plaque, proceed across the street to the final coordinates. Please rehide the cache well to avoid being muggled. Also note there may be critters of all kinds out in this field. Please use caution.

Oh, an be sure to grab the nearby Benchmark to make this a double find. HS0975
