Geocache Description:

This is a tiny micro with a log only. Bring your own writing instrument.

Chartered in 1859, The Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe Railway was one of largest railroads in the United States. In 1996 the ATSF merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.

The Santa Fe Depot building in Riverside was built in in 1927 as a depot for Santa Fe passenger trains. One of the trains to stop here was the Grand Canyon, providing service between Chicago and Los Angeles, while also making a stop in Williams, AZ for a rail connection to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Santa Fe got out of the passenger train business in 1971, and the Santa Fe Depot in Riverside fell into disuse when passenger service was discontinued. The building has recently been renovated for general office use.
