Cache is an ammo box, located on section #7 of the North Country Trail along a scenic ridge. Contains an assortment of trade items and a pack of batteries for the FTF. Please sign the log book so the world can know what an adventurer you are!
Parking is available at the #7 Trail head alongside Sturgeon Bay Trail (N45*40.770 W084*58.040) or Lakeview Parking/Picnic area (N45*42.173 W084*57.141). If you have access to two vehicles, I'd suggest parking one on each end, since the trail is NOT a loop. This particular section of trail is nearly 3 miles of vigorous ascents and descents through wooded sand dunes and winding ridges that afford spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Wilderness State Park, with an occasional low-lying wetland and fascinating evidence of past forest fires.
So, if you have some extra time on your hands, some snacks packed, and a thick layer of bug spray... I HIGHLY recommend hiking this whole section. It's not for the faint of heart, but talk about a great sampling of Northern Michigan's natural beauty and wildlife. When you reach the end all hot and sweaty, the refreshing waters of Sturgeon Bay are just around the corner. The North Country Trail Association keeps these trails clear of brush and well-marked... just keep following those BLUE TREES and ENJOY!
*** A permit was required in order to hide this cache within the boundaries of Wilderness State Park, and as the first person to be issued one of these permits I ask that you help me to prove their trust in me and cachers in general correct. We want to avoid creating spur trails(geotrails), so tread lightly and remember that the cache is within easy sight of the trail. Please do not disturb vegetation, wildlife, or the surrounding area during your search for the cache. Pick up all your litter and any that you find along the way, and remember that there is no camping or campfires allowed in this area. Don't place food or other heavily scented items into the cache, which might entice animals to bother with them. We want geocaching to be a positive experience for the park and its employees, so as not to jeopardize the future of caching in this wild and beautiful State Park.***
