Geocache Description:

Tirkane Sweathouse is a well preserved rectangular structure built against the side of a hill with a roof made of flat stones with a small chimney hole in the corner. The floor is also paved with stone. A Sweat house was an early type of sauna used in Ireland in the 18th and 19th century but it’s origins may date back much further and there are only a few remaining in Northern Ireland. It is located 2½ mls NW of Maghera. There is easy parking at the side of the road.

Satellite cover is poor near the cache site, but if you go to the bottom of the first set of steps. The cache is on the right hand side just off the path. No fences need to be crossed to find the cache, it is a black 1L tab lock box with a geocache sticker on top containing an assortment of swops. After finding the cache you can walk down the short distance to the bottom of the steps to see the Sweathouse.
