Gus Garcia park has been in development since we moved to this part of town in 1999. Last Saturday, the new rec center was opened! The park used to contain a number of homeless camps, but a few "It's My Park" days have cleaned up this former vacant lot and made a good beginning to a really nice neighborhood park. There is already a half-mile trail on crushed granite, with more trails planned. Lots of good places for caches near the creek, too.
A design competition for further development took place last year. See http://www.gusgarciapark.org for the future of the park. We are all hoping for a neighborhood pool, playground and more trails. My kids are learning to ride bikes on this trail, so if you see us, give a shout!
But the coolest thing about this park is the electric car recharge stations at the rec center entrance. We've never seen this before!
The cache is in a small square lock-n-lock. Logbook, pen, and trade items are included.
