Geocache Description:

This multi-cache is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT), a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Click on the Allegheny GeoTrail Logo below to visit the AGT website at www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at www.geocaching.com .

This three stage multi cache is handicapped accessible, but it is not a typical park and grab cache. The quest begins at a roadside historic marker in downtown Warren where you will need to read and learn a little bit. On this journey toward Seneca Land, you will need to stop at two historic information waypoints and answer a few questions about native american history to help you get some of the coordinates for the final stage. The coordinates for the first two way points are provided and they will get you close enough that you may not even have to leave your vehicle to read the signs and decipher the clues for the third and final stage.

The entire journey will cover about 15 miles from downtown Warren to the final hiding place. The coordinates for the final stage can be expressed as N41* 58.ABC W 078* 58.DEF and by answering the following questions to solve for the missing coordinates.

At the First stage-Historic Marker you will answer questions to give you coordinates for Letters C, D, & E

C= The number of letters used to spell out the name of the Seneca village that used to occupy this site, according to the historic marker.

D= The sum of the two digits in the next sentence added together. This village occupied this site around the Mid ___ ___th century according to the historic marker.

E= 4th Digit minus the 3rd digit in the year __ __ __ __ that this village was first mentioned by Bonnecamps according to the historic marker.

At stage 2, you will answer questions to get the answers for Letters A, B, & F

A= the number of times that Chief Cornplanter is specifically mentioned by name on the historic roadside marker at the second stage.

B= How many miles long was the canoe portage described here?

F= The first digit of a two digit number describing the distance in miles of the alternative route according to the sign.

When you get to the final stage, you should be able to park very close to the hide location and the cache should be wheelchair accessible except when the snow is too deep to maneuver a wheelchair in. The cache is placed with the full knowledge and permission of the property owners and there is no fee necessary to find the geocache. Enjoy this nice little area and come back to stay for a while.

The actual cache is placed at a location that hosts the annual chainsaw carve event each year in May and there are a few examples of the carving handiwork at the final destination. For extra credit and for the fun of it, take a picture of your caching team at their favorite sculpture and post it to the cache page with your log.
