Multi-staged cache set in Midford (south of Bath) which tracks path of the old Somerset Coal Canal through meadows etc. Not suitable for pushchairs and should be completed in about 45 mins car door to car door. This cache was archived as it went missing but it is now back due to popular demand!!
The Somersetshire Coal Canal (SCC) was authorised by an Act of Parliament in April 1794 and was promoted by the mine owners of the North Somerset coalfields as a cheaper means of transporting coal to the markets in Bath and the surrounding area.
Starting at Dundas Aqueduct, on the Kennet and Avon at Limpley Stoke, the main arm of the canal travels west through Monkton Combe, Midford, Combe Hay, Dunkerton and Camerton to the basins at Paulton and Timsbury. At Midford, the other arm headed towards Radstock via Wellow and Writhlington.
Now disused and in a state of decay, the path of the canal can still clearly be seen winding through the Somerset countryside.
After parking in the Pub Car Park (or N51 20.699 W002 20.610), join the footpath at N51 20.656 W002 20.708 and travel to the stated coordinates.
At this point you will find CMZ under the bridge. Find the 3 numbers on white and label them a b and c. Now solve the following to take you to the cache:
N51 20. a+c 1 a+b+c
W002 21. a 9 c
Please combine this cache with our 'Now wash your hands' one as the parking is the same for both.
