Jacks Peak County Park is Poison Oak Country!
"Caution-Poison Oak" reads the unassuming wooden sign posted at the junction of the Rhus and Iris Trails. Certainly an understatement! Fortunately for the hiker, most of the trails in this wonderful park are wide and offer a clear pathway through the seas of the invasive plant.
After a careful reading of the sign, turn left on to the Rhus Trail, whose trailhead is marked by a very large stump. Stop and search at this location--the cache is hidden from sight but reachable from the trail.
The container is a clear plastic Lock & Lock box filled with trade items, a log book, and a pen. When placing this hide, I chose to honor the "close to the trail" spirit of the other caches in the park. Of course, with the high volume of visitors during the summer months, this may limit the life span of the cache. So... visit now!
At Jacks Peak County Park, day use hours vary. When I visited, the posted park hours were 11:00a.m.-7:00p.m. Although free parking is available down the hill at the overlook, paying the vehicle use fee will allow you to park very near the trailheads.
Lastly, due to extreme tree cover throughout the park, your coordinates may vary.
