The “Tour de Matchedash” Series is an 8 cache
series placed to showcase the beauty and solitude of the Matchedash
Lake, Upper Eastern Lake and Lower Eastern Lake areas of the
Matchedash Barrens.
Badlands...
What can we say about this? From Tabletop to
Badlands was just a slog. The beaverdams are numerous and the
portages are torture. You should be aware that many of the
spots in here will be a significant challenge to lift, drag, pull,
drop and throw your gear and canoe through. In fact, we
actually missed a perfect cache placement spot due to the
challenges we encountered trying to get arround an obstacle.
Water levels seemed to be low past one of the dams
and we found out later why; the dam near Badlands had been breached
and so the water has drained out of the passage and lowered the
level by at least a foot. Some tricky passages were
encountered but it should be no trouble for a shallow draft
canoe.
