Owl Island Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

PedalPushin: Well unfortunately the river rose ... a lot over the last week ... which was enough the cache has now floated to an unknown location downriver. The river only rises that high once in a long time but I guess this was the year.

Might look to replace it sometime in the future ... time to archive now.

Geocache Description:

Owl Island

Summer has come back to the interior of Alaska! Now that PedalPushin (aka PaddlePullin) has a new hobby, a cache just needed to be placed within the banks of the Chena River. This cache will be a bit more difficult to access during the summer months as Owl Island will require a canoe, kayak, or boat to access. Please do not think about swimming to the island as the water tends to be quite cold, a current is present, and that takes some of the fun out of the hunt. Besides, private property lines one side of the river and military property lines the other. The cache is placed on state land as waterways belong to the state. The ratings for this cache can easily change depending on season, water flow, and approach method.

While placing this cache we were treated to beaver, ducks, some passing geese and the peacefulness of the river. Several travel bugs are making their Alaskan debut in this cache and would like to do some traveling if possible.

Enjoy!
