The Parish Church of St. George, Crowhurst, East Sussex.
The Church of St. George is a lovely old Church in the Early English style, consisting of nave, chancel, north aisle, and tower containing 3 bells. Apart from the tower, which was built in the 15th century by the Pelham family, the Church was rebuilt in the 19th century by Teulon.
There is a lovely window in the east end of the north aisle, which is sadly hidden from the congregation by the pipe organ, and two attractive windows depicting love and purity in the north and south walls of the chancel.
In the south side of the Church yard adjacent to the ruins of a 13th century manor house is an ancient yew tree. The circumference of this tree around the bottom is 42 feet. There are railings to protect it now, but a local lady told us that there used to be a seat around the tree. This magnificent old tree is estimated to be 2000 years old.
The cache is a 35mm film canister with a micro certificate for the First to Find.
If anybody would like to expand the Church Micro series please do, we would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first, so they can keep track of the Church numbers and names, to avoid duplication.
