Geocache Description:

Pajarito Ski Hill (above Los Alamos) on the East side of the hill by the quad lift. Evershine Ridge runs the perimeter of the ski area on the East side.

July 4, 2011 NOTE: Due to the progression of the Las Conchas Fire (123,000 acres so far), this cache has been over run by the flames. The cache was under a fallen log under some stones so there is some possibility it survived. Or it is an incinerated lump of plastic. Once we are allowed back on the mountain, we will assess the cache. If it is still there it will be a miracle. If not, we will rejuvenate it so geocachers can follow the life of the land after a fire. Stay tuned for more.

This is our first cache so hopefully all will work at ok. We love to ski at this "private feeling" local ski hill. We have enjoyed the views from all over the hill. This past season my daughter started skiing more than the bunny hill and Evershine Ridge quickly became a favorite, thus the choice for our first placement.

Park across the street from the quad lift. For those not familiar with the ski area, Evershine Ridge will be the left most run as you approach the quad lift. BEWARE: there is a 200 foot elevation gain from the parking area to the cache site with the cache at about 9150 feet altitude. For those not acclimated to hiking at these altitudes, please take your time. If you are out of breath, stop and look down through the trees at Los Alamos and the surrounding valley.

The 'trail' is wide open until you get close to the cache. There are some spiny spindly plants in the area and lots of downed trees/branches so watch your footing.

The cache is a sandwich sized rubbermaid container with the log, pencils and sharpener (please leave the sharpener) and assorted goodies my daughter and her friend donated.

Once the snow starts to fly, this cache will probably not be accessible until the Spring thaw.
