This cache is part of a series that we have placed on the West Fife cycle way. The route is all on tarmac, it also connects with the three circular routes in West Fife if you wish to explore further. The route is reasonably flat and is suitable for adults and younger children, as part of a great cycle run, or alternatively, there are many car parking areas along the route where you can gain access if you’re feeling less energetic. Details of this Route are in the West Fife Cycle Route.
At this junction the railway branched north to comrie colliery, it crossed the A 907 by means of a level crossing (The White gates), which was protected by a signal box. There was a marshalling yard built on the branch just north of this junction. The Forth Ironworks were located just to the north of the yard, but closed as long ago as 1869 when the area was given over to coalmining only. The line between Oakley and Alloa was closed and lifted before the line between Comrie Colliery and Dunfermline. The Roxio Cokeworks were also located here. Further west of the cache site you can still see evidence of the platform and the concrete pillars.
The cache is a 35mm container
