Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Ferncliff Forest in Rhinebeck, NY. This 200 acre Game Refuge and Forest Preserve was donated in 1964 by the Astor family. There are many trails (marked and unmarked) that can be used by hikers, mountain bikers and even horseback riders on the bridal trail. Parking can be found on Mt. Rutsen Rd. There are three other caches located here for you to explore including a terrific view from atop the 75' fire tower that was built in 2007. There are many remains of old foundations, root cellars, and hand-dug wells, so keep small children close while on the trails. The Ferncliff Forest is open from dawn to dusk with overnight camping by permit only.

The cache itself is a letterbox hybrid for all those who like letterboxing as well. You don't have to have a stamp to log the find, but if you do, leave your mark in the log book as well. The cache is being placed for Mother's Day 2008 and has that as its theme. There are four small stamps that you can use with Mom in mind. Stamp your book with one or all four, it's up to you. Please leave the stamps and inkpad in the cache for others to enjoy. The path you take to the cache is totally up to you and can alter the difficulty as you will have to decide what trail to take and how far to bushwack. The cache could be found in winter, but would be difficult with a lot of snow. You're looking for a 30cal ammo can. Please be careful when retrieving it as it is a little different than your usual ammo can. The swag is somewhat "Mom" oriented. You don't have to leave a letter here, just reflect on what moms do for us every day.
