A walk through both the Milgard Natural Area and the Hylebos Estuary Wetlands Project.
Parking for the cache is a small gravel lot on the south side of 4th St E. Please note that there is no legal parking along the sides of 8th St. E. You'll find a trail at the south side of the parking lot that leads you into the Milgard Natural Area, an area set aside as a wetland during the planning for their nearby factory.
Just to the east of the Milgard Area is the Hylebos Estuary Wetlands Project. This was a joint project by several state, Federal and Tribal groups to improve the upper tidal reaches of Hylebos Creek, changing it from a ditch to what you'll see on your way to the final. Along the way are benches, viewing platforms and, usually, lots of wildlife. The total walk is less than 1/2 a mile.
So head south on the trail from the parking area and after finding waypoint one and the coordinates for the final, the shortest route will take you further south to the next road. Turn left and cross Hylebos Creek until reaching the corner where you enter the Hylebos Estuary Wetlands. After finding the final it is a short walk further north and across a bridge to return to the parking area.
As you cross the bridge, note which way the water is flowing. Normally the water flows toward Commencement Bay from South to North but twice a day as it approaches high tide the flow reverses and water flows upstream.
