Geocache Description:

2.5" Camo Round Tupperware.

Dabney Cabin

Dabney Cabin was built as a retreat for the family of Charles Dabney in 1914 on the West bank of Manzana Creek. Because of it's history and age it was designated as a Santa Barbara county historical landmark. Presently, the cabin is maintained by the Los Padres Chapter of the Sierra Club. There are two common approaches to the cabin. The most often used is from Nira, it's a 14 miles round trip. You mostly follow Manzana creek and is fairly gentle, but there are at least 25 stream crossings. Many you can cross dry on rocks, but depending on water levers, this may not be the case on all of them. You may get your feet wet! The other, shorter trip is via Sulphur Springs trail off of Catway road, near Figueroa Mountain. This is the one that I took when I placed the cache. The route is about 11 miles round trip, but you have to gain back the 2,700 feet you decended to get in on your way back home. It's about 1-1/2 miles further to Historic Manzana Schoolhouse if you want to get the School House Rock virtual cache and about 3/4 mile more to get the Baby Bessie virtual cache.
