Pietermaritzburg’s own airport with regular daily scheduled air services to and from Johannesburg and Richards Bay by SA Airlink. The are a number of flying schools and private air charter companies operating out of the airport which is also the base for the Natal Midlands fire fighting service. During the high risk winter months behemoth Russian helicopters can be seen on standby in case of devastating forest fires that can occur.
There is an active skydiving club and over weekends one can sit and watch the skydivers enjoying their sport. Regular skydiving competitions are held at Oribi during the year.
