Geocache Description:

Promey

Promey, or Prometheus (his full surname), was a very loyal walking and hiking companion of mine for almost 14 years. He had the biggest, sweetest brown eyes that told you deep down of his undying affection for you. His large tongue was part of his joyful smile that he would give you when he was out enjoying a beautiful day. He had the perfect instincts for being the best trail partner you could hope to wish for. He lived his life by two mottos: Leave no one behind and Stop and smell the flowers, he truly knew the value of being outdoors with your friends. He lived his life loving the outdoors and did it until his final day, 1 year and a day ago from this cache placement.

I chose this area as we all headed off for this trail last year on my birthday, two days and a year ago. Of course it was on a regular BCW outing with the PIC, Promey and his newest little sister, the Fancy Dog. We arrived in the afternoon for the trailhead and not knowing the rules of the park realized we might not make it back from the lake by the time the park gates would be closed so we just took a stroll around the lower area grabbing the cache near the trailhead and went with our back up plan just across the river. As normal, we all had a great time finding caches on my birthday, enjoying the fine spring day that it had turned out to be. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to run up for the FTF that was available in the Wallace area, but as a happy caching family we found other trails to enjoy the afternoon and evening. Promey and Fancy Dog frolicked along the trails, teasing each other and sprinting to see who was the younger pup, with Fancy Dog always giving him a run for his money, but he would use his size to deter her course being the sly dog that he was, just so he could edge her out. He did everything he could to enjoy what ended up being his last day out and we all went home happy covering miles of trails and finding many enjoyable caches.

A friend and I headed up on a not so sunny spring day, a year and two days later to make the journey Promey could not. I found it fitting that a cache be placed in his memory in one of the last places that he shared his joyful smile with me, knowing that he was always happy to be out on the trails with me. Depending on the time of year you find this cache, there is a scenic waterfall in the background of this classic hiding spot, and I know Promey would approve of the view just because I did, and that he would have got a great almost 5 mile hike.

Rest in peace, my dear friend.
