Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the former site of the Bear Tree. It was recently cut down. The cache is right off the road, a small bank needs to be climbed to access the cache. This cache is on my family's property so full permission has been granted.

The cache is a large ammo box with plenty of small caches for you to take and hide yourself. To honor the memory of the Bear Tree we suggest that you use the word "Bear" when you name your cache. This of course is just a suggestion, feel free to name your cache whatever your heart desires. The containers are clear waterproof "tubes" that hold a little more that 2 oz of liquid. They include logs, pencils and info on geocaching. There is a FTF pin and "prize" for the first to find.

How the Bear Tree got it's name, excerpt from Genoa by Ward O'Hara.
"Going North on East Genoa Road, there, looming on the East Bank of said road, just before you come to Goose Street, stands a huge maple tree. Under it's outstretched bough slept a peddler one night with his bear. The peddler went through the countryside with his bear putting on wrestling exhibitions. It was said no man was ever able to throw the bear. He was muzzled of course- the bear not the peddler! Down through the decades that tree has been called the Bear Tree and should, by all means, have a sign erected to so indicate."

The bear tree was cut down on April 15, 2008.
