Serie von Caches mit interessanten Kirchen, häufig mit guter
Aussicht.
Welcher Tiroler kennt nicht Maria Brettfall? Und sicher
ist dieses Kirchlein, das so markant über einem Kalkfelsen am
Eingang des Zillertals thront, auch schon vielen Durchreisenden
aufgefallen.
Die barocke Wallfahrtskirche Maria Brettfall – im Volltext „Mariae
Heimsuchung auf der Brettfall“ – stammt aus dem Jahr 1671, Kapelle
und Inneneinrichtung aus dem 18. und 19. Jh. Hl. Messen an (allen?)
Sonntagen um 15:00.
Eine Einsiedelei gibt es an dieser Stelle jedoch bereits seit 1536.
Kurios ist der Umstand, dass die Eremiten die Einsiedelei jeweils
kaufen mussten, um dort tätig werden zu dürfen.
Der Sage nach wurde ein Marienbild auf wundersame Weise immer
wieder an diese Stelle versetzt, worauf hier ein hölzernes
Kirchlein zur Verehrung des Bildes gebaut wurde.
Im Krieg gegen Franzosen und Bayern 1809 nahmen Tiroler Schützen
von hier aus die die einmarschierenden bayrischen Truppen unter
Beschuss.
Von der Aussichtsplattform und einer Brücke hinter der Kirche hat
man einen fantastischen Blick auf den Ort Strass, die Burgen
Kropfsberg, Lichtwerth und Matzen und weiter ins Unterinntal.
Die benachbarte Einsiedelei wurde zur Freude der Cacher in eine
Jausenstation umgewandelt, in der auch regionale Gerichte serviert
werden (im Sommer geöffnet von 10:00 bis 18:00 außer Montag und
Dienstag, den Rest des Jahres ziemlich komplizierte
Öffnungszeiten).
Erreichbarkeit:
Mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zuerst zum Bahnhof Jenbach, von
dort mit der Zillertalbahn nach Strass. Gehe nach Süden zu den
angegebenen Koordinaten des Parkplatzes.
Mit dem Auto oder Motorrad zum Parkplatz am Rand einer Siedlung
südlich von Strass bei den Koordinaten N 47° 23,529’ – E 11°
49,226’. Gleich daneben gibt es einen Kinderspielplatz. Von hier
beschilderter, steiler Kreuzweg nach Maria Brettfall, Gehzeit je
nach Kondition 15 bis 45 Minuten.
Radfahrer gelangen mit dem MTB von Rotholz (N47°23,269'
E11°47,759') auf der Straße zum Schlittererberg und über die
Abzweigung Richtung Brettfall direkt zum Cache – ein wahrer
Fahrrad-drive-in.
Doch nun zum Cache:
Dieser ist im Bereich der angegebenen Koordinaten N 47° 23,608’ –
E 11° 49,005’ zu finden, vier Kehren oberhalb der Kirche, nahe
einer Aussichtsbank.
Der Cache liegt 5 m vom Weg und 5 m vom Abgrund. Vorsicht wegen der
Absturzgefahr, daher nicht blind den Koordinaten vertrauen!

Almost every Tyrolean knows Maria Brettfall. And most of the
travellers have noticed this small church looking down upon the
entrance of the Ziller valley form a wall of limestone rock.
The baroque church of pilgrimage ‘Maria Brettfall’ dates back to
the year 1671, the chapel and the interior to 18th and 19th
century.
A hermitage is reported from the year 1536 on. It may be unusual,
that the hermits had to buy the house first to be allowed to go
there.
In the war against French and Bavarians in the year 1809 the
Tyrolean troops fired at the Bavarian troops marching into their
land.
From a platform and a bridge behind the church you have an
excellent view over the lower Inn valley with the castles of
Kropfsberg, Lichtwerth and Matzen.
The nearby hermitage has been changed to a tavern, which will be
welcomed by the cachers (regional cuisine, in summer open from 10
am to 6 pm except Mondays ad Tuesdays; the rest of the year the
opening hours are pretty complicated).
Accessibility:
By public transport you have to go to Jenbach station, from there
with the Zillertalbahn (railway) to Strass. Walk towards south to
the coordinates of the parking.
By car or motorbike to the parking in the south of Strass,
coordinates N 47° 23,529’ and E 11° 49,226’. Next to it a
playground.
From here follow the signs on a steep crossraod to Maria Brettfall,
due to your physical condition you need between 15 and 45 minutes.
By bicycle you have to take the road from Rotholz (N47°23,269'
E11°47,759') towards Schlittererberg and a side road directly to
the Cache.
The cache can be found at the coordinates N 47° 23,608’ – E
11° 49,005’, four hairpin bends above the church and next to a
bench with a panoramic view.
The cache is situated 5 m from the forestry road and 5 m from the
cliffside. So don't trust the coordinates blindly, it's a dangerous
area!
