A road side cache and dash. This is one of a series of caches placed along the old Kintore to Alford railway route.
The bridge goes over what was once the route through to Tom’s forest quarry. After the rail line opened in 1859, Mr Tait of Port Elphinstone realised the potential of being able to utilise the tracks for shipping out the granite, and bringing in lime and manure for farm improvement. So in 1863 the siding was built. Now instead of the quarry shipping out it’s contents by rail and wagons, lorries by the dozen use the now defunct route.
There is possible parking just over the bridge at the entrance to the field N57 14.754 W002 22.748 Just take care as the locals do use this route up to the houses at Clovenstone.
