Horse Lake Mountain, also known as Twin Peaks, rises above the
Wenatchee Foothills to the west. You can see Horse Lake Mountain
from just about anywhere in the valley, but more noticeably when
viewed from East Wenatchee. Horse Lake Mountain has two summits,
hence the nickname Twin Peaks. At elevation 4621 feet, it is
several hundred feet higher than Stevens Pass and Blewett Pass.
To reach the trailhead drive up Number 2 Canyon road for about 4
miles and park at the gate. The hike is about 3.5 miles (one-way)
with an elevation gain of 1800 feet. The trail is actually a Forest
Service road that is well maintained. Motor vehicles are not
allowed. The road is open to hikers and bikers only. I didn't see
any signs about horses and did see horse tracks. The first mile of
road leads you through a large grassy meadow, then the next mile
does a few switchbacks to the top of the ridge where you can see
the Wenatchee Valley to the east. The remainder of the hike
continues to the top where there are excellent views of the Cascade
peaks to the West and Mission Ridge to the South.
Don't forget to bring plenty of water, and a camera. Enjoy the
hike!!
