Geocache Description:

This is a multi-waypoint cache that is a series of puzzles & calculations. The correct answers will speed you along your way to the ultimate goal-The Treasure of Serrano Creek. Park in the parking lot near the listed coordinates of N33° 38.775' & W117° 41.325'. Assume all bearings provided are Magnetic North, & all calculation are for the last three digits of Seconds of Longitude & Latitude. A minor error was contained in the original cache write-up of 9/12/01 which made the West coordinate for Waypoint #4 (The Cache) off by .004 seconds. This should not have affected you from finding the cache. The correction has been made below on calculating where the Cache is located.

The terrain is basically level but could be slippery in spots near the water, but not difficult. Depending on your travel & navigation you can expect 2 to 2.5 miles in total distance in mostly shade. Please respect the private property on both sides of this city park. Stay on the trails whenever possible. Carry water.

  1. Waypoint #1: N 33° 38._ _ _' W 117° 41._ _ _'

The North coordinate is the street number of the Heritage Hill Historical Park minus the street number of Crown Hardware, divided by four (4), plus fifty-two (52). The West coordinate is the North coordinate less 396. The magnetic bearing from these coordinates is 296 degrees to Waypoint #1 from where you are standing. The object at Waypoint #1 is approximately 10 feet long and is surrounded by rocks & water.

  2. Waypoint #2: N 33° 38. _ _ _' W 117° 41. _ _ _'

Waypoint #2 is 263 degrees magnetic in a straight line from Waypoint #1.

A pirate had in his treasure chest a ratio of 5 pairs of blue socks, 4 pairs of brown socks, and 6 pairs of black socks. He had used up all of his candles. In complete darkness, how many socks would the pirate need to pull out to be sure he gets a matching pair of the same color?

    1. 5 Socks: Go to: N 33° 38.767' & W 117 41.503'
    2. 6 Socks: Go to: N 33° 38.987' & W 117 41.126'
    3. 4 Socks: Go to: N 33° 38.919' & W 117 41.807'
    4. 7 Socks: Go to: N 33° 38.849' & W 117 41.433'

  3. Waypoint #3: N 33° 38. _ _ _' W 117° 41. _ _ _'

The North coordinate can be calculated by taking the total number of bolts on Waypoint #2, minus the number of missing bolts times two, times the number of rusty bolts. Take your result and multiply it by 45 for the North Coordinates. The West coordinates can be located by going approximately 26 feet due South (180 Degrees Magnetic), from the East end of Waypoint #2. Look on the third Eucalyptus tree just above the two rusty nails for the West coordinates. Note: This is in a forest of Eucalyptus trees.

  4. The Treasure of Serrano Creek is located at: N 33° 39. _ _ _' W 117° 42. _ _ _'

The North coordinate to the Treasure can be calculated by taking the total number of the letters in the color of the Waypoint, minus the number of degrees to Waypoint #2 from Waypoint #1, times 2.75, plus 718.75. The West coordinate is calculated by taking the three digit number on the Waypoint, plus the number you just calculated for the North coordinate, times two (2), minus 50.
