Geocache Description:

Mowed trail to the cache location. Cache is a film container with a logbook.

Native Americans used acorns to make dyes in various shades of brown. The inner bark, which is red, was used as a dye for animal skins, which were later made into clothing. Pin Oak acorns are small and bitter when eaten raw, but when leached of their tannin they can be ground into a protein-rich meal. The acorn flour was mixed with water and made into small cakes, used to thicken soups or to provide oil. The bark of a Pin Oak was used for medicinal purposes as an astringent and as an aid in curing bowel trouble. The wood was used to make bows, arrows, spoons, ladles, house coverings, masks, paddles and tool handles. Most importantly, the wood was used to make canoes, which were a major form of transportation for Indian civilizations.
