You are standing in an area that used to be Old Cahokia Creek. When the Interstate 55/70 was built through this area the creek was diverted north of the Interstate. A prehistoric Indian city once thrived along this creek. From here the Mississipian people could travel west 8 miles by canoe to the Mississippia River. Their trade network followed the river north to Wisconsin, south to the Gulf Coast, west to Oklahoma and east to the Smokey Mountains. This geocache is placed on Historic Preservation Agency managed property with permission. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials. It is the visitors responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Agency managed site. Cachers must yield the right of way to site staff and visitors.
