Geocache Description:

Attention fly-fishermen and/or geology enthusiasts! Here is a great opportunity to view some geothermal hot springs and do some fly-fishing, all in the same trip (but not at the same time).

My brother and I placed this goodie-filled geocache after a great day of fly-fishing in Hot Creek. One hundred feet NW from the cache site we were literally scooping 16" trout out of the water. If you're game, definitely bring your rod along with your GPSr. The 'plaque' waypoint will take you to a plaque which describes the geothermal phenomenon of Hot Creek (park just off Hot Creek Hatchery Rd). This is the best place to park if you want to view the hot springs (NO swimming allowed as of 2006). If you look SW from the plaque area down the canyon you can see the cache location about 1/4 mile away. Follow the paved trail down to the stream and walk along the river to the cache. Some light scrambling will be necessary at the end.

If you're primarily looking to fish, you may want to park at the 'alternate parking' waypoint. You will be closer to the cache too, and an unpaved canyon trail leads you right down to the cache. The Hot Creek geothermal area is open year-round, but only from sunrise to sunset.
