A railroad trestle pier in the middle of the Mcleod river from a long forgotten rail road.
Located in Willmore Park south of Edson. Turn south on 63rd street which becomes Range Road 174. The cache is in a lock and lock. Original contents ... Pencil, pencil sharpener, log book, pair of Gramps home-made coasters, mini- screwdriver set, Town of Edson pin, Geocache pin, sun catcher, Harley Davidson key chain. In 1910-1911, 2 Railroads were being built through the Yellowhead Pass to Vancouver. They were the Grand Trunk Pacific (GTP) and the Canadian Northern (CNoR). From Edmonton, the tracks paralleled each other. Just West of Chip Lake they parted. GTP took the route of the present C.N. rails and CNo took the route of the present Highway 16. This pier in the river was part of a 1389ft. trestle. Immediately West of the trestle crossing, the Townsite of Tollerton was surveyed. This was a divisional point on the Railroad. A station, a 10 stall roundhouse, a bunkhouse and a section house were all built here. The townsite was never developed. When I came to Edson in the mid 60's, the floor and parts of the walls of the roundhouse were still visible, but are now gone. By 1917, both the GTP and CNo were in financial difficulty. In 1920, they were taken over by the Government and in 1923 became the Canadian National Railway (CNR). Most of the track of the CNo was deserted. There is a trail along the river bank. It is a very nice walk and lovely views. It ends at the campground.
