Geocache Description:

Located in Thornwald Park. The cache is a micro. I may be hard to spot so look everywhere. It is not burried but it is not right out in the open either.

This may be a difficult cache to find. The park is used so be aware of muggles. It is located in Thornwald park in Carlisle. The trail is well maintained and there is very little elevation gain. There are signs placed along the trail to identify trees and there is also a fit trail with many fitness workout stations. And thanks for hunting and finding my cache. The History of Thornwald Park provided by Zan91 The park was originally owned by the Sadler family who built Thornwald Mansion in 1910. The area had about 1300 trees and was described as "thickly wooded". Close to $1000 was spent (equivalent to $17,000 today) to preserve the trees from damage during construction. These trees were planted in 1902 which means the majority of the forest is over a hundred years old. The mansion was built in 1909 for Lewis Sadler, a Carlisle lawyer and graduate of Dickinson School of Law. Accounts from that year placed the cost of building the structure at $500,000. In its heyday, the home was used to entertain national politicians. At one point every room was said to be stocked with antique furniture and oriental rugs. Sadler entertained lavishly in the dining room of the once-stately brick mansion containing 39 rooms and 10 baths. Large pillars mark the front and rear entrances to the home. The house includes secret rooms behind a wall, a rathskellar (beer hall) and wine cellar in the basement, along with ornate wood and masonry work. The mansion was named Thornwald because of the thorny trees at the entrance to the property
