This is a regular sized replacement cache for Gcgrck, The Topanga Lookout Cache.
Parking is at the Lois Ewen Overlook at Shueren and Stunt roads.
Placed just a mile from the roadway this family friendly cache offers some of the best vistas in the area. Views to the north include …Castro Peak, Boney Mountain, Lady face Mountain, Calabasas Peak. Panning to the east you can see from Topanga Canyon to the downtown LA skyline and Mt. Baldy beyond, to the south from the urban sprawl of the palisades and planes landing at LAX and to Palos Verde. And to the west, on a clear day maybe even out to China!
The trail is mostly hard packed fire road with maybe 100 feet of altitude gain/ lost. The Concrete slab that you’ll find is all the remains of the of Los Angeles Fire Department's Topanga Fire Lookout and has been a canvas for taggers, and other graffiti artists.
Once my daughter and I came here and were surprised to find that the entire foundation had painted pink with red and black polka dots. While I was pondering the Who, What, How, and Whys, She declared ground zero as one giant Ladybug. I laughed it off until a couple of months later when I had the opportunity to fly over the lookout and saw that she was absolutely right. Ever since then, when taking visiting friends and family out to see LA, This one is called. …Taking in the ladybug, we’ll miss her.
Nothing special here now, she’s covered with tags and stencils and more paint, But the Views are still fantastic. Keep a hand and eye on the younger ones there are no guardrails or fences and wildlife can include rattlers and coyotes.
