Geocache Description:

Future of this one is uncertain. A few branches came down, and it was discovered that the tree is pretty well rotted on the inside and will likely have to come down. No word yet if they'll leave the bench/sitting area after it's gone (private property). Find it quick, before it's gone!

Renaming to recognize the work of a Scout from Wolcott's Troop 231. When I placed this cache in May of 2008, it was to mark a forgotten bit of CT history- a tree covered in poison ivy, with a vandalized commemorative plaque- that had been planted in1902 intended as a civic reminder of the CT Constitutional Convention. Thanks to the work of a young man working on his Boy Scout Eagle Scout project we now have a cleanly landscaped spot to visit this piece of history rescued from obscurity! 1st time visitors will be impressed with the work and those who've been here before will be amazed at the obvious effort put into reviving this spot! A brief history of the Pin Oaks: Around the turning of 19th to the 20th Century, State Reps from Connecticut were given Oak seedlings to bring back to their towns and plant. Tree was planted here with intent to move to Town Green when it was large enough. Status and location of these trees can be found on the 'related web page' above.
