Geocache Description:

REQUEST TO NEXT SEEKER: If you're up for lending a community helping hand, please bring a replacement log and extra baggie...CO is out of town but the log is reportedly soggy and in need of replacement. MERCI!!

** SPECIAL THANKS TO belwig for checking on the cache on 5/13/20 and confirming that it is there and that there are viable, legal routes to get there. And thank you to TheLF for replacing the damaged cache container and log on 2/13/15. You're both awesome!!**

NOTE 1: Make sure to read the description below for our recommended path to this forest-based nature-adventure cache in a sea of urban hides!

NOTE 2: When this cache was originally hidden, there was a short, easy path to the cache, but when the fence was erected it became more challenging. Because of the more circuitous route and because of recent reports that the foliage has grown since we last visited, the difficulty and terrain ratings were adjusted upward as of 12/17/15.

Every time we've come to Kissimmee/Orlando over the past few years, we've always noticed the Field Of Dreams, a great place set up with a soccer field, a baseball diamond, and tennis courts. Well, now that we're into Geocaching, we wanted to place a cache in high-caching-per-capita Kissimmee/Orlando, and the field just beckoned.

Parking is available across the street at the shopping center or in the parking lot of the motel (don't park in those 15-minute spots, though!). Until late 2010, the way to the cache was to cross the Field Of Dreams and begin your quest in the foresty area at the far end of the field! It is not very far in...maybe 50-100 feet in. Since the construction of a new stadium began, that route has become obstructed by a barbed wire fence. However, there are reportedly two paths to the cache.

Our preferred path starts at the Northwest corner of the hotel, at coordinates of N 28 20.792 and W 081 38.093. Simply walk along the outside of the fence...it will take you right to the cache. Once you get toward the back of the field, you could also take the more scenic trail. This was a pretty easy travel for us and allowed us some privacy.

Other geocachers have made alternative recommendations other than the one described above...while I haven't personally verified their paths, this paragraph tells you what some of them did. (1) According to the 199th cacher to find this geocache, a second alternative path exists. If you go to the west of the hotel entrance, you'll see a small field. Go to the south east corner of this field and you will find a path that will get you through the trees, around the hotel, and to the cache. Wear long pants for this one. (2) In February 2013 a cacher recommended the following: "Walk behind the fire station along the West-side of the hotel perimeter, along the barbed wire fence. Most of the walking is through the forest so bring long pants and old shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. If you walk along the West-side of the hotel, when you reach the South-West corner, continue following the fence (now walking East)." (3) On January 4, 2016, a geocacher had the following recommendations and comments: "I like hanging out in the woods, and I thought this was a great cache. Not being able to walk straight to the (cache) was a great challenge. I found a hole in the fence at the following coordinates: "N 28° 20,673 W 081° 38,091", and would recommend...this place as a waypoint. I also discovered a good shortcut back out of the woods, for geocachers out there familiar with climbing trees: "N 28° 20,597 W 081° 38,065"

As of February 13, 2015, you are searching for a camo'ed PB container.

Since this cache was placed, the hotel name has changed. While the name of this cache was chosen in part because of the name of that now-defunct hotel, it also was in honor of a departed friend whose signature song was nearly the same as the cache name, so despite the hotel's name-change, the cache is holding onto its original identity.

Please make sure to place the cache back where you found it, place a couple of fronds or leaves in front of the area so no passersby will notice it, and have fun!
