Geocache Description:

The Bushbuck walk is at The Island Nature Reserve situated between Seaview and Cow corner.

The Island Nature Reserve stretches over 500 ha. It is interspersed with pine and eucalyptus plantations, and also provides protection to a patch of Alexandria Forest. It is typically very dense, with a height of about 10 m, and represents the southwestern extension of the more tropical coastal forests occurring further east. The Bushbuck walks consists of a number of interlinked loops: 1.5 km; 30 min, 3.4 km; 45 min, 7.6 km; 2 hours, and 16 km; 5 hours; all circular. Route markings as well as the map are very poor. This is a perfect opportunity to make full use of the features on your GPS.
In addition to the Bushbuck, you might also see common duiker and vervet monkey, while a variety of small mammals also live in the reserve. Among the bird species to look out for are the olive bush shrike, Narina trogon, Knysna lourie, forest weaver and olive woodpecker. Along the Bushbuck Walk, some fine examples of hard pear, cheesewood, Outeniqua yellowwood, veld fig, Cape teak and Cape chestnut can be seen.
