AGS = Andy Griffith Show which ran from 1960 to 1968. This series of caches are located in a friendly town.
Beatrice “Aunt Bee” Taylor (portrayed by Frances Bavier) - is the paternal aunt of Sheriff Andy Taylor and grandaunt to his son Opie Taylor. Aunt Bee acted as housekeeper and surrogate mother to her adult nephew and his son. In the first episode of the AGS Aunt Bee returns to Mayberry after a five year sojourn in Morgantown, WV, when Andy’s housekeeper Rose marries and leaves the house. Despite never marrying and having no children of her own, Bee is naturally maternal.
Bee is well known for her cooking talents. In the first episode, she serves a platter of fried chicken with all the trimmings, and thereafter her character is associated with wholesome, home cooked meals. She frequently contributes meals to community or church events, and brings picnic baskets of food to Mayberry’s tiny jail for its lawmen and inmates. While she is an excellent cook, she is oblivious to the fact that she makes incredibly bad-tasting pickles. Andy and Barney refer to her pickles as “kerosene cucumbers”. She is also not very good at making marmalade. Andy is fond of her pork chops and cornbread biscuits, while Opie’s favorite dish is her Butterscotch Pecan Pie. She is also well known for her apple pie.
Beginning with the second season, Aunt Bee has at least one romantic affair per season. Her romances added depth to her character. In the black and white seasons, Bee gave her heart to cads of all sorts and sometimes needed Andy’s help in extricating herself from unpleasant situations. In the color years, Bee gained wisdom through experience. She paired herself with respectable gentlemen and managed her affairs without significant assistance from Andy.
Bee’s character change was reflected in her dress. In the show’s early years, she was given to wearing comically dowdy house dresses, flower decorated hats, ladylike white gloves for venturing outside the house, and even a shawl once.
Even more drastic in her character was her liberation from her homemaker role. Bee left her kitchen to open her own restaurant, to host a TV cooking show, to run for office, to buy a car, and to take flying lessons. Andy and Opie were sometimes left at home to prepare their own meals.
Aunt Bee sees Opie grow from six to fourteen. She is well known for saying “Flibbertigibbet!”
When Andy marries his longtime girlfriend Helen Crump on Mayberry RFD, she opts to give the newlyweds their own space and becomes housekeeper for farmer Sam Jones and his young son, Mike.
In 1986 the television reunion movie, Return to Mayberry, Aunt Bee was not present. Frances Bavier had retired to Silver City, NC and was in ill health. In the movie Andy is seen reverently visiting Aunt Bee’s grave.
This cache should be a park and grab, but beware of the muggles that may be around at busy hours of the day and night. This is a non-traditional very small container so please bring your own writing instrument.
As always be safe, happy caching, and enjoy each day to its fullest.
