Geocache Description:

Park and grab. Geo-muggles are *everywhere,* so please be extra discreet. Bring your own pencil.

This is one of several “Old Glory” caches celebrating the 230th anniversary of the Flag Act of June 14, 1777, which stated "Resolved that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation."

On Flag Day, June 14, 1923, representatives of over 68 organizations met in Washington for a conference, called by and conducted under the auspices of the National Americanism Commission of the American Legion, to draft an authentic code of flag etiquette. The code drafted by that conference was printed by the national organization of The American Legion and was given nationwide distribution. On January 4, 1993, the Congress established United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, which may be found at: (visit link)

Paragraph 176(k) of this law states: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

This container is maintained by American Legion Roswell Post 319 and provides dignified American flag disposal. Similar containers are provided in the City of Sandy Springs, where there are currently 3 other “Old Glory” caches. Thanks to GA Cacher and Kat6 for suggesting this location.
