AGS - Floyd Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

angel06: There isn't a good location for a cache at the new location of this business. Several of the Mayberry gang have left for parts unknown. They didn't tell me where they were going or when they would be back. This area is now available for any other cacher.

Geocache Description:

AGS = Andy Griffith Show which ran from 1960 through 1968. This series of caches are placed in a friendly town.
Floyd Lawson (portrayed by Walter Baldwin for one episode/ then Howard McNear) - commonly known as “Floyd the Barber”. He was the slow paced, somewhat absent minded barber in Mayberry. He had an inability to trim sideburns evenly. He had a mustache and wore thick glasses and usually a white barber jacket. He was a whimsical, laid-back, but occasionally excitable fellow whose barbershop was somewhat of an institution in Mayberry. The men of the town would gather there, not only to get their haircut, but to play checkers, discuss current events, or generally “shoot the breeze” and “carry on”
Floyd was also an amateur poet, sometimes composing verse for Mayberry civic events. These poems always consisted of repeating, over and over, the same few words.
When not cutting hair, Floyd can generally be seen sitting on the bench outside his shop. In fact, in almost all of his appearances later in the series, Floyd is only seen sitting or “appears” to be standing behind the barber’s chair. This is due to the fact that Howard McNear suffered a massive stroke and was left with little use of his arms and legs, especially his left arm (it rarely moved).
Floyd was the uncle of Deputy Warren Ferguson, who replaced Deputy Barney Fife.
In Andy Griffith’s real hometown of Mount Airy, NC, barber Russell Hiatt, who looks quite like McNear, has cut hair for several decades in his institution called “Floyd’s City Barber Shop” while also welcoming streams of tourists (including Oprah Winfrey).

This small container is ready for a visit, but didn't know how to read the sign "Monday - Friday 9-5". I did visit and got permission from the owner, Tiger. The coordinates were averaged.

As of 5/30/14 this cache is available 24/7, but it might be wise to obtain during daylight hours or the "Men in Blue" may question you. The owner of this business has given the okay - PROVIDED people do not disturb the nearby business.

As always be safe, happy caching, and enjoy each day to its fullest.
Please let me know of any concerns regarding this cache in your online log.
