PWF2008-2-The Abbot Stone, Boulsworth
The Abbot Stone, Boulsworth
On the permissary path up to Boulsworth (at least by the way I normally go round) you reach the Abbot Stone just as the path starts to ease. An excellent vantage point it also offers a bit of bouldering at all grades from Difficult to Extreme. It’s a nice spot for a short break before the last 10 minutes to the summit.
We visit Boulsworth almost every day of the Festival usually passing the Abbot Stone. For mountain connoisseurs (i.e. me) Boulsworth is a better hill than Pendle itself – if only because it is much less frequented – but you can also judge by the number of different leaders who have all offered walks up it. One clear, icy cold, January 2nd I actually saw Snowdon from the summit and on good days the views in all directions are brilliant.
