Lake Catherine State Park Visitors Center Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

QuartzCachers: Of the original nine caches I hid in this park, this is the fifth one to go down. The park is going to be renovating the host structure, and this one has to go. Thanks to all who hunted this cache over the last six years.

Geocache Description:

An Altoids tin hidden around the BBQ pit at the visitors center.

This is the visitor center of the park. You will register here for a stay in the park, but do it months ahead! This place is popular! Many people come here to visit, from all over. There are many park oriented items available for purchase here as well.
In the vicinity of the visitor center, is a BBQ pit. Local lore has it that this pit was constructed during WW2, by German prisoners.
Our boys were brought here from the army/navy hospital, during the war, for R&R. There is, still visible, in front of the visitors center, the foundation of the lodge that was used at that time.
Around the BBQ pit, there are bricks from the brick plant at Buffalo Kansas, which is just down the road from my little hometown of Gridley, Kansas.
To find this cache, you will not need to move any bricks, or rocks. Please don’t try to enter the structure. It won’t help you find this cache.
Once again, there is poison ivy and an assortment of noxious critters in the area, so be careful!
This cache has Lake Catherine State Park geocache permit # 2008-H
Congrats to likestocanoe for their FTF!!!
