The
Russell Family Farm Conservation Project is part of the
The Hinesburg Land Trust. Permission has been
granted from Mr. Russell for this cache. He asks only that you
please respect the farming operation by closing the pasture gates
behind you, as farm animals may be grazing in the fields. Do not
climb over any fences. Enjoy your visit!
If
you'd like to visit the farmhouse for some maple syrup, I posted
the coordinates as a waypoint that way you can download it when you
download the coordinates to the cache. I met Mr. Russell's
grandmother at the house when I stopped in for syrup. She said that
she her family was big enough so that she didn't have to work the
trails during sugaring season. She runs the business end from the
house!
I also met one of his nephew's working
on the farm on a nice hot June afternoon. He is looking forward to
meeting more cachers so stop by and say
hello!
"The
land trust is made possible through the generosity of the Russell
Family and many local donors, the 63 acres conserved by this
project has preserved both a natural and cultural asset as the core
of the village’s identity. The forested hillside is the scenic
backdrop of the village, and the property includes a beautiful
trail network accessible from the village center and available to
residents throughout our community. The trails are not only for
recreation but each spring allow access to the 1,300 sap buckets
that have been hung on these trees for over 100 years. Right in the
center of Hinesburg, people can see old-fashioned sugaring in
action. Community members can watch and help in the process, from
maple tree to evaporator. Where else can friends and family see a
team of horses drawing sap on a historic village
farm?"
This
is the third cache in the series around the
Russell Family Trails. The
cache series idea came from DeweyDoubleD. You will find this 5.5
cup lock and lock up the trail at least a tenth of a mile from
mwein's
Rustle Rustle.
Check out mwein's bookmark list
on the right side of this page for the other caches along the
trail.
Keep
an eye out for Fraggles. They would love this spot.
FTF prize is $5 Dunkin Donuts
