Geocache Description:

Thanks to the Menzel family for donating the land and the upgrades to the trail.

A little history; I first tried to scout this area in early spring 2007. I had visited previously (in the summer), even before geocaching was invented , and knew it would make a great spot for a cache.
On this trip I only got a little further than where Post 3 is now. Blocked by water over the trail, I tried bush-wacking my way to Mud lake....ha ha, the water (in the early spring), floods well out from the lake in seemingly all directions, and, I'm not sure even a machete would help with all the vegetation. I did find, however, some interesting old buildings and foundations, and a very large area of lilacs. (west of the trail near what looks like a large, LIVE, elm tree). Dissapointed but undaunted, I resolved to come back when the water was down.
I returned in August to find.....at almost the exact spot I had marked as my farthest progress...a brand new, never been used, and not quite finished , raised boardwalk under construction !. The water had receded by this time and I could walk next to the footings where the platform was unfinished. Success!!. Found what I hope is a good spot, and hiked the 2.4km back out.
Took a long time to find the container I was looking for, and then Winter. (I may be a fanatic , but I'm not walking 5 km in deep snow to place a cache lol. particularly this one).
Finally, spring of 2008, the boardwalk is finished, a kiosk has been added with an interpretive booklet and wayposts.
According the the book, out to the lake and back is a 4.8km round trip that takes 2 hrs.
There is a picnic table at the lake, so bring a snack, and maybe some fluids. I've seen 100's of ducks and geese at migratory time, and even startled a canada goose into the lake with my arrival today.
The trail to the lake is mostly an old road, with the boardwalk (s) over the wet parts. The trail passes through many different habitats, allowing for a wide range of plants and animals to be seen and heard. The day I placed the cache, 3 woodpeckers were making an awful racket in a tree near GZ.
You should have no problem with a stroller as far as the picnic table. The terrain rating is for the trail that runs around the edge of the lake towards GZ. For all my trips here, I have never seen another person, but GZ is safely out of sight of the picnic table, just in case. There are NO washroom facilities that I've found.

Finding the cache:
The posted co-ordinates are for a monument. On that monument is a plaque.
This entire park is dedicated in memory of a particular person.
On this plaque you will also find 2, four digit numbers.

A= (# of letters in that person's 2nd (middle) name) - 3
B= 1st digit of 1st number
C= 4th digit of 1st number
D= 3rd digit of 2nd number
E= 4th digit of 2nd number
F= 1st digit of 2nd number

adjust the posted co-ordinates by the following amounts
N+ .(ABC) + 5
W+ .(DEF) + 2
I recommend following the 'road/trail' to Mud lake (where the picnic table is), then along the 'trail' by the lake.

Please be gentle with the environment, no digging, climbing, or destruction are required.

cache is now a clear L&L. and it has the original cammo.

Congratulations to Primstr (T) for the FTF

thanks to Bloomski for identifying a rather glaring math error (now fixed)
